IN10 insurance: what to prepare after uninsured driving
IN10 records using a vehicle without third-party insurance. A new application must use the actual record and answer the insurer’s questions; it cannot remove the endorsement, reverse a previous offence or confirm that you may drive now.
What IN10 records
The DVLA table describes IN10 as using a vehicle uninsured against third-party risks. It lists 6 to 8 penalty points and a 4-year record period from the offence date. If your case involved a court order or disqualification, read that document as well as the endorsement entry.
GOV.UK states that driving without the required insurance is illegal, even if the vehicle itself is insured but you are not correctly insured to drive it. A payment receipt, an old schedule or someone else’s policy is not sufficient evidence of your own driving arrangement.

Separate four questions that can be confused
First, check the recorded event and any outstanding proceedings. Second, check your present driving entitlement. Third, check the vehicle’s insurance or lawful off-road position. Fourth, decide what future cover you want to ask a provider about. A fresh comparison only addresses the last question.
If a vehicle has been seized, a claim is in dispute or an insurer has cancelled a policy, use the relevant authority or provider process. This site does not offer impound cover, negotiate a cancellation or resolve a prosecution. Do not assume a standard comparison journey will meet vehicle-release requirements.

Prepare more than the endorsement code
Have the vehicle details, actual main driver, intended journeys, parking, honest mileage estimate and start time ready. Keep cancellation or refusal documents available if the application asks about them. An IN10 record and a cancelled policy are different facts; one answer may not cover both questions.
Read the question’s time period and any definitions. If a form cannot represent your circumstances accurately, ask the provider how to proceed. Selecting “no” simply because the form feels difficult is not a reliable way to obtain cover.

Before driving again
Confirm the final policy documents, effective date and time, vehicle, drivers and permitted use. Also confirm the licensing conditions separately. A returned price is not a policy in force, and a policy in force does not cancel a driving ban.
If your record affects the new-driver six-point rule, the licence issue needs attention before ordinary driving. GOV.UK explains the provisional-licence and retest process after revocation.

A preparation example
Illustrative preparation: a person wants a quote after an IN10 but also has a cancellation letter. They keep the endorsement and the cancellation as separate documents and ask the provider how each question should be answered.
Your checklist
- Check the IN10 entry and offence date.
- Read any court, cancellation or vehicle-release documents separately.
- Confirm present driving entitlement.
- Prepare the actual vehicle and use facts.
- Check the new policy’s start time before relying on it.
Questions answered
Can this tool remove my IN10?
No. It explains the official code and produces a preparation checklist; it cannot alter a driving record.
Does the Quotezone link provide impound insurance?
We have only the supplied convicted-driver comparison link. We do not present it as a dedicated impound product.
